Live from their 3rd date hike in Eaton Canyon on January 7th:
Jimmy lies his back onto the rocks of a ravine
And he cannot help himself, he is auditioning.

“Should we bring water?” Jimmy asked, back in the parking lot.
“No, we should drink it now.”
“Good idea. We’ll drink now so we don’t have to carry it.”
Jimmy watched her take a sip
And imagined himself skiing down her upper lip.
“Wow, you brought a lot of sunblock... What SPF is that? 50???”

On the trail, the dog
stayed attached to her hip with no leash necessary.
It was in his German blood.
The trouble was that he must also keep Jimmy, the suspect, 
in sight, 
as any good cop does.

Uncertain of his place on the trail,
the dog runs amok 
into the cacti until
Jimmy is blamed and ordered to take the lead
so that her German Shepard can satisfy his inbred breed.

Jimmy stayed attached to her hip with no leash necessary.
It was written in his mutts blood.
The trouble was that he must also keep his dog-son in mind
as any good auditioning father does.

In the lead, Jimmy hopes she is staring fondly upon his back 
and regretting the backpack he so nerdily packed.

As they came to a clearing, Jimmy assumed the posture of a dog in attack
to engage his new son's violent nature.
He asked leading questions to learn if her “worse” ex-boyfriend, as she called him,
Was black?

Syd used to take Jimmy and his mom on hikes
Chest hairy and jeweled in the same silver now worn by Jimmy
His Mom was protected by Syd’s 7 mutt army
Jimmy The Kid could take a load off, finally...

She climbs a tree, telling Jimmy to follow
“Up here, my dog can’t intervene…” she says, promisingly.

“I love kissing you under this tree…
I want to say it is pine
But I’m not seeing straight
All I can see is the movie in my mind
I get like this sometimes,”
offers Jimmy.

Crickets.
She hops down.
“Did you know Rudolf Steiner believes that all bugs are ruled by one soul?” she asks.

On their 2nd date,
Jimmy joked that her indifference
was his catnip.
She had done this cool thing
Where she gave Jimmy her parking ticket
And told him to pay it.
